We set out to characterize the fundamental electrochemical and interfacial reactivity at the graphite surfaces of lithium-ion batteries, using galvanostatic cycling, X-ray diffraction and impedance spectroscopy as our main tools. We seek to characterize a range of material thicknesses, ultimately scaling down all the way to graphene.
