On the 22nd of October 2026, the ANION consortium held its annual meeting in Groningen, bringing together researchers from across the partner institutions to share their work, discuss recent results and strengthen connections within the consortium.
The meeting highlighted the breadth of research within ANION and the collaborative spirit of its growing research community.
The scientific programme featured presentations from researchers at different career stages, alongside a poster session and pitches from newly appointed researchers. Together, these sessions showcased the range of scientific questions being addressed across the consortium, from fundamental studies of electrochemical interfaces to applications in catalysis, materials and energy storage.
We had the pleasure of hosting Jeppe Vang Lauritsen (Aarhus University) as our keynote speaker and the symposium featured talks by Huib Bakker (AMOLF), Hannah Dickinson (Utrecht University), the newly appointed Assistant Professor Peter Rice (University of Amsterdam), Rik Mom (Leiden University LIC), Aleksandr Baskhatov (University of Twente/RWTH Aachen University), Stijn Feringa (University of Groningen), and Serge Lemay (Leiden University LION).
Beyond the presentations, the meeting offered time for researchers to discuss their work, exchange perspectives and explore potential collaborations. Participants appreciated both the scientific breadth and the exciting results presented, as well as the open and collegial atmosphere.
The annual meeting remains an important opportunity to strengthen links between ANION’s partner groups, encourage exchanges across research areas and lay the groundwork for future collaborations. ANION thanks all speakers and participants for contributing to a successful meeting, and the University of Groningen for hosting the consortium in Groningen.
