We are pleased to announce the winners of the ANION Photo Competition, which invited members of the ANION community to share visually engaging images that capture the science and creativity behind nano-electrochemistry research. The competition aims to highlight the fascinating structures, experiments, and concepts that underpin the work across the ANION network.
Harsh Wadwani - "Macroporous Silver"
Harsh’s image shows macroporous silver synthesized by electrodeposition using PMMA spheres as a template. The ordered porous structure forms a model system for studying transport properties in porous electrodes, an important topic for electrochemical energy technologies.
Hannah Dickinson - "Silver Feathers"
Captured during in-situ electrochemistry in a transmission electron microscope, this image shows feather-like dendrites forming during silver electrodeposition. Hannah’s research investigates the structure and growth mechanisms of these coatings, with the goal of suppressing dendrite formation and achieving flatter, more stable electrodeposits for catalysis.
Rick Kort - "At the Tip of Charge"
Rick’s image is a 3D model of an atomically sharp AFM tip approaching a gold surface in aqueous electrolyte, with a single ion held in the structured electric double layer between the tip and the surface. The visualisation highlights nanoscale charge distributions and reflects the ANION goal of achieving a microscopic understanding of electrochemical interfaces and electric double layers.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who participated. The submitted images help showcase the creativity and scientific depth within the ANION community and will be used in ANION communications and outreach materials.
